Preparing for Worship | March 20, 2022
This Sunday's Sermon Text: Matthew 26:6–16
Now when Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, a woman came up to him with an alabaster flask of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head as he reclined at table. And when the disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste? For this could have been sold for a large sum and given to the poor.” But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a beautiful thing to me. For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me. In pouring this ointment on my body, she has done it to prepare me for burial. Truly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.” Then one of the twelve, whose name was Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, “What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver. And from that moment he sought an opportunity to betray him. (ESV)
This Sunday's Songs
"Doxology"
We will be singing the Doxology with these lyrics:
All creation, join in praise.
God the Father, Spirit, Son;
Evermore your voices raise
To th’ eternal three in one.
"Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee"
"Alas, and Did My Savior Bleed"
"Amazing Grace"
"Christ Is Mine Forevermore"
"May the Grace of Christ Our Savior"
We will sing this song to the tune of "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing," which you can hear in the video below. But we will sing these lyrics:
May the grace of Christ our Saviour
And the Father's boundless love
With the Holy Spirit's favour
Rest upon us from above
Thus may we remain in union
With each other and the Lord
And possess in sweet communion
Joys which earth cannot afford
Preparing for the Service
As a family, there are several ways you can prepare for corporate worship. Here are a few:
Introduce your children to a member of the congregation or certain worship leaders and let your children know what those worship leaders do (elders, deacons, musicians, ushers, etc.).
Sing the hymn of the month one evening at home.
Pray with your child at home.
Involve your children during family worship at home.
Reflect on the sermon after worship or some evening during the week.
Look over the order of worship with your child before the service, anticipating what will happen.
