Preparing for Worship: Second Sunday after the Resurrection - April 23

God Calls Us to Worship Him

Call to Worship

Worship Leader: The festival we celebrate today is one of victory the victory of the Son of God, King of the whole universe. On this day the devil is defeated by the crucified one; our race is filled with joy by the risen one. (Hesychius of Jerusalem)

Hymn of Adoration: "10,000 Reasons"

The sun comes up it's a new day dawning It's time to sing Your song again Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me Let me be singing when the evening comes You're rich in love and You're slow to anger Your name is great and Your heart is kind For all Your goodness I will keep on singing Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find

Chorus Bless the Lord O my soul O my soul Worship His holy name Sing like never before O my soul I'll worship Your holy name And on that day when my strength is failing The end draws near and my time has come Still my soul will sing Your praise unending

Ten thousand years and then forevermore

Ending Worship Your holy name Lord I'll worship Your holy name

God Graciously Renews Us in Christ

Confession of Sin

Silent Prayers of Confession

Forgiveness of Sin through Christ

All: For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in you!

(Psalm 84:11-12)

Hymn of Assurance: "Wonderful Cross"

When I survey the wondrous cross On which the Prince of Glory died My richest gain I count but loss And pour contempt on all my pride See from His head His hands His feet Sorrow and love flow mingled down Did e'er such love and sorrow meet Or thorns compose so rich a crown

Chorus O the wonderful cross O the wonderful cross Bids me come and die and find That I may truly live O the wonderful cross O the wonderful cross All who gather here by grace Draw near and bless Your name Were the whole realm of nature mine That were an offering far too small Love so amazing so divine Demands my soul my life my all

Thanking God for What He Has Done

Worship Leader: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Giving Our Tithes and Offerings

We demonstrate our thanksgiving in the gospel through when we give to the annual Annie Armstrong Easter Offering (named after missionary Annie Armstrong) for North American missions. The monies collected for Annie Armstrong Easter Offering goes to: Start new churches; engage in student evangelism on college campuses; serve the physical and spiritual needs of people through inner-city Baptist centers; serve in local Baptist associations as church planting catalysts; provide training and ministry in apologetics (interfaith witness) evangelism; minister in resort settings such as campgrounds and ski areas. Please prayerfully consider in addition to your offering to Calvary giving to this worthy ministry. This special offering will be collected through the month of April.

Hymn of Affirmation: "Glorious Day"

One day when heaven was filled with His praises One day when sin was as black as could be Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin Dwelt among men my example is He The Word became flesh And the light shined among us His glory revealed

Chorus Living He loved me dying He saved me Buried He carried my sins far away Rising He justified freely forever One day He's coming O glorious day (glorious day) One day they led Him up Calv'ry's mountain One day they nailed Him to die on a tree Suffering anguish despised and rejected Bearing our sins my Redeemer is He The hand that healed nations Stretched out on a tree And took the nails for me One day the grave could conceal Him no longer One day the stone rolled away from the door Then He arose over death He had conquered Now is ascended my Lord evermore Death could not hold Him The grave could not keep Him From rising again

Bridge One day the trumpet will sound for His coming One day the skies with His glories will shine Wonderful day my beloved one bringing My Savior Jesus is mine

Ending O glorious day glorious day O glorious day

God Instructs Us through His Word

Scripture Reading: Psalm 4

To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments. A Psalm of David.

Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness!

You have given me relief when I was in distress.

Be gracious to me and hear my prayer!

O men, how long shall my honor be turned into shame?

How long will you love vain words and seek after lies? Selah

But know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself;

the Lord hears when I call to him.

Be angry, and do not sin;

ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent. Selah

Offer right sacrifices, and put your trust in the Lord.

There are many who say,

“Who will show us some good?

Lift up the light of your face upon us, O Lord!”

You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound.

In peace I will both lie down and sleep;

for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

God Nourishes and Feeds Us through His Supper

He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth.Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors. (Isaiah 53:7, 10-12)

Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. (1 Corinthians 5:7)

For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering. (Hebrews 2:10)

Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!” (Revelation 5:11-12)

God Blesses Us and Sends Us Out

Worship Leader: Now may He who raises the poor from the dust, the needy from the ash heap; and makes them sit with nobles and inherit a seat of honor. Bear you through troubled days, to you who trust in God’s unchanging love. (1 Samuel 2:8)
